The Barnstable High School varsity baseball team defeated Sandwich on a blustery and bone-chilling afternoon on Monday, 4-2, thanks in large part to the stellar pitching performance by junior righthander Willie Nastasi.
Nastasi (2-1) went the distance (7 IP) in his complete-game victory - his second of the 2011 campaign - striking out 11 batters and walking just one. He scattered six hits and both runs allowed were unearned.
The Red Raiders' record now stands at 5-4 on the season and it was the team's third straight win after defeating Dartmouth in a 7-2 Old Colony League tilt on the road last Friday, where righty Keegan Dellacona (1-3) went the distance for his first win of the season, striking out 10. Fellow right Pete Liimatainen started the three-game winning streak with his 5-1 complete-game gem versus Dennis-Yarmouth earlier last week.

Barnstable got things rolling in the second inning versus the Blue Knights Monday (May 9), when senior captain Alex Pernick laced a fastball to the leftfield wall for a double to drive in one, then came home on a textbook bunt into no-man's land by Everett Walsh (2-3) who collected a hit on the play then went to second when the pitcher threw the ball away even though Walsh was safe at first, while Pernick came scooting around third for the team's second run.
Mark Brodd went 2-4 while Tyler Adams ripped a late-inning double down the leftfield line and Dan Walsh collected a pinch-hit RBI double in the sixth frame. The Red Raiders are 1-1 in the OCL and face Taunton at home on Wednesday.
