Barnstable Police: Underage Drinking Stings Coming

Underage drinking stings are coming soon to Barnstable, police said.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable police said they launch a series of underage drinking stings staring in May.

The effort was funded by a $9,960 state grant. The money will pay for party patrols, compliance checks, reverse stings, and surveillance patrols, police said.

"The compliance checks of the bars, restaurants and liquor stores will be completed using an underage decoy working with the police department," Barnstable police said in a statement. "The decoy will attempt to purchase alcohol in each establishment checked. If successful, enforcement action will be taken.

"The goal of the grant program is to make the Town of Barnstable and its roadways a safer place for everyone to enjoy by seeking out and enforcing underage drinking law violations."

The grant period will run until the funds are exhausted or Sept. 30, 2016—whichever comes first.
