Barnstable To Raise Tobacco Age At End Of Year

The Board of Health last month approved an amendment to the town's tobacco rules that goes into effect Dec. 30.

BARNSTABLE, MA – An amendment to the town's tobacco rules approved by the Barnstable Board of Health will raise the legal age to buy tobacco to 21. The board unanimously approved the amendment, which will go into effect Dec. 30.

Tobacco sales will also be outlawed at educational institutions, and new tobacco permits will not be issued to retailers located within 500 feet of an elementary or secondary school.

The language of the regulation was expanded to include e-cigarettes and vape pens.
