Barnstable To Remember 9/11 With Saturday Ceremony

The morning ceremony will take place on the 20th anniversary of the events that killed nearly 3,000 people, including two from Barnstable.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable will remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks Saturday in a ceremony in Barnstable Village.

The morning ceremony will take place on the 20th anniversary of the events that killed nearly 3,000 people, including two from Barnstable and over 200 from Massachusetts. Barnstable's victims include:

  • Brian D. Sweeney, 38, Barnstable
  • Barbara Jean (Bobbi) Arestegui, 38, Marstons Mills

The ceremony begins at 9:55 a.m. at the fire house on Main Street. Speakers include state Rep. Tim Whelan and Barnstable Fire Chiefs Frank Pulsifer and Matthew Sonnabend.

The ceremony will also include its annual ringing of the bell at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, music and an appearance from the police honor guard.

Following the ceremony, there will be a procession down Main Street to the church, where a service will be held. The procession starts at 10:40 p.m.
