Barnstable Residents Still Without Power As 'Multi-Day' Storm Recovery Continues
Nearly three-quarters of utility customers in the town had no electricity Wednesday morning.
BARNSTABLE, MA — After Monday’s blizzard battered Barnstable and other parts of the Cape, many residents remain without electricity.
The winter storm hit the town with over 20 inches of snow and howling winds, downing trees and power lines and making travel all but impossible. On Wednesday morning, 22,000 local customers of utility Eversource remained without electricity, the company reported – 72% of all customers here.
Barnstable officials said Tuesday that snow removal, power restoration and other clean-up will be a “multi-day effort.” Public works crews initially focused on clearing main roads and collector routes, but have also shifted to making the town’s 290 miles of secondary roads passable.
