Bent Bears Down, Leads Red Raiders to Win
Senior righty George Bent turned in a spectacular, complete-game performance this afternoon against Dartmouth and led Barnstable High School's diamond nine to a 6-1 victory. The Red Raiders are now 9-2 heading into tomorrow's road trip to Nauset.

Talk about control.
Barnstable High School senior righty George Bent looked like the embodiment of a textbook lesson on pitching control this afternoon, as he struck out 12, walked none, scattered six hits and used 112 pitches in nine innings for his first win of 2012.
The sole run he allowed - unearned - came in the top of the eighth inning.

Through seven innings, Bent had allowed no runs, struck out 10, allowed just three hits and walked no one and he used just 80 pitches. And as if those details were not enough to add him to the growing list of top notch Red & White hurlers, of the 80 pitches Bent threw in his first seven innings of work, he pinpointed 66 strikes and tossed just 14 balls.
After a pair of 1-2-3 innings by Bent in the first two frames, his lineup slowly but surely got behind him, beginning in the bottom of the second when Mark Brodd (3-4, double) led off with a one-out single and came home on a vicious double to the wall in right-center by Everett Walsh (2-4, RBI).

The Red Raiders added to their 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brodd led off with a basehit, stole second and came home on a D.J. Crook (3-4, 2 RBI) single to make it 2-0.
With Bent cruising along and keeping the Dartmouth bats off balance, the Red Raiders added another run in the fifth to make it 3-0 when Dylan Morris (1-4) led off with a single to right and made it to second base when the rightfielder bobbled it. Morris came home on a Danny Walsh (1-4, RBI) single.
Things opened up a bit for the Red & White in the bottom of the sixth when Everett Walsh led off with an opposite-field single, then stole second and advanced to third base on an overthrow and came home on a Crook single. Denny Beynor then reached on an error and Luke Besse (1-4, 2 RBI) drove them both home with a basehit to make it 6-0.
Dartmouth scored in the top of the eighth to make it 6-1 but with two men on and two outs, Bent got a little help from Everett Walsh in right field on a sensational diving catch over his head.
