BHS Awarded Massachusetts Math and Science Initiative Grant

From Principal Patrick Clark's desk...

This grant will directly support our school improvement goal (number 3) which is to increase the number of low-income and minority students in the Advance Placement Program. Students will shift from wondering if they should take an A.P. class to choosing the best A.P. class for them.

Barnstable High School has one of the most comprehensive Advanced Placement Programs in Eastern Massachusetts. With the support of the MMSI grant, we will become the A.P. showcase for the Commonwealth.

Barnstable High School supports the Advance Placement International Diploma – a College Board recognition of our nation’s students who complete the most rigorous course of study, along with their international inquiry project.

To support the projected growth of the B.H.S. Advance Placement Program, teachers in grades 6 -8 will receive specialized “Pre-Advance Placement Training” to establish both rigorous academic standards and executive functioning skills at the Intermediate Level.

We fully embrace our new relationship with the a Massachusetts Math and Science Initiative; the expanded A.P. course offering will certainly position B.H.S. as one of the premier, comprehensive public high schools in Massachusetts, providing academic rigor and challenges for all.
