BHS Gymnastics Team Gears Up For Sectionals

With the Cranberry Conference championship title locked up last weekend, the Barnstable High School gymnastics team (10-1) has its sights set on the Division 1 South Sectional championship set for Saturday, Feb. 25, at Hudson High School at 4:00 pm.

 

They must be well-coached.

Under the tutelage of head coach Duncan Chase, the Barnstable High School Red Raider gymnastics team took its 13th consecutive league/conference championship title last Saturday afternoon at Somerset High School, edging Notre Dame Academy (Hingham), 141.7 to 140.85 in the Cranberry Conference Meet.

Coach Chase has been at the Red Raiders' helm for each of those 13 straight league or conference championships.

Now, with a 10-1 record under the belts, the BHS gymnasts will head to Hudson High School on Saturday, Feb. 25, to vie for the program's 12th Division 1 South Sectional championship.

Red Raider 8th grader Tali Twomey took third place in the all-around with a 36.3, while senior co-captain Taylor Lahteine took second place in the vault with a 9.2.

Senior co-captain Jasmine Opie took a first-place on the beam with an 8.8, and freshman Jackie Hansen placed third with an 8.5. Hansen also placed second on the floor with a 9.0.

Sophomore JoJo Leveroni, who returned from a knee injury to compete in the bars routine, inspired her Red Raider teammates with her performance.

Opie took home the Cranberry Conference South Sportsmanship award while conference all-stars were also named. They included: Ashley Baratini (all-around); Taylor Lahteine and Tyler Arrington (vault); Tali Twomey (bars); Alexa Wilson and Jackie Hansen (beam).
