BHS Red Raiders Sink Blue Knights in Rout
Barnstable Head Coach Gerry McDowell emptied his bench last night as the Red Raiders downed the Sandwich Blue Knights, 79-54, thanks to 18-point efforts from Nick Peabody and Jason Eddy and a defense that disallowed the guests from creating momentum.
With East Boston set to visit Hyannis Saturday afternoon, the Red Raiders got some much-needed work in last night.
Well, a 79-54 drubbing is a more apt way to describe it.
The 5-1 Barnstable High Red & White took on the visiting Sandwich Blue Knights last night, received a pair of 18-point performances from juniors Nick Peabody and Andrew Eddy and BHS Head Coach Gerry McDowell emptied his bench not too soon after the start of the second half. The Red Raiders dominated each quarter of the affair, with Peabody dumping in half his total output (9 pts.) in the first quarter alone.

It appears the scouting reports on the Raiders have resulted in opposing teams scheming double teams on BHS captain Charlie Rice, leaving Peabody virtually alone on the inside. And for the third straight game, Peabody has answered with a double-digit output, not to fail to mention a rock-solid net gain from Eddy. Rice finished the night with 11 points, but he also had four assists, four steals and six rebounds before getting into foul trouble and being relegated to the pine.
Even with a relatively disruptive and effective defensive effort on Sandwich hot-hand Zach Sprague - who seemed incapable of missing the bucket from start-to-finish - Sprague still had a game-high 26 points.

Still, it was not enough as BHS got an eight-point effort off the bench from Tedaro France to go along with point tallies from Ty Adams, Everett Walsh, Dylan Morris and Travis Kendrew. Walsh and Peabody added five and six rebounds, respectively, while the entire BHS squad vastly reduced its number of turnovers by committing just seven on the night.
Barnstable also shot 6-13 from beyond the arc, a huge improvement from previous efforts, with Eddy, Kendrew and France each burying a pair of treys on the night. The Red Raiders also went 15-22 from the charity stripe - a statistic it likely could have used in its previous loss to LaSalle Academy when the Raiders visited the free-throw line just once in the first half.
BHS welcomes East Boston this Saturday at 3:30 pm.
Congratulations are in order for the BHS JV Boys team. The young up-and-comers are still undefeated on the 2011-12 season.
