Bites Nearby: The Island Merchant

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Barnstable-Hyannis Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Overview: is known for its unique food offerings, great atmosphere, and for having live music almost every night without ever charging a cover. The menu incorporates local and regional foods, while also having a Caribbean influence. The live music ranges from acoustic guitar to reggae bands to Elvis tributes.

Decor: The Island Merchant's logo is a pineapple, representing warmth and hospitality, and the decor exudes that as well. These both contribute to the overall homey and welcoming feeling of the Merchant--as it is affectionately called by regulars.

The Drinks: The Merchant Mojito and the Rum Punch are their specialty. But for less adventurous individuals, there is a great selection of wines and beers on tap.
