BPS Superintendent Reflects on First 90 Days
Dr. Mary A. Czajkowski gives her insight on what she has learned since the start of school.

- Teachers, administrators, and supportstaff are deeply committed to their work in serving students and families and their endless energy is evident on a daily basis.
- The core values have purpose and meaning and are infused throughout the district.
- Educating the “whole child” is a priority in the school district.
- A significant amount of work has been completed by teachers and Central Office administration to align our PreK+ 8 curriculum with the Common Core Curriculum.
- Standards based report cards are aligned to our curriculum and communicates student progress.
- Time and a lack of funding continue to be a concern from teachers and administrators.
- Our elementary facilities need attention.
- Our School Committee is committed to a high quality education for ALL students and continues to maintain a collaborative relationship with the superintendent.
- Roles and responsibilities of the superintendent and school committee are clear and adhered to by both parties.
- Opportunities are abundant for ALL students who attend the Barnstable Public Schools.
- Our gifted and talented program is rich and responsive to individual student needs and provides a variety of options for gifted students.
- Organizing transportation for approximately 5,300 students is complex and challenging.
- The High Performance Team Characteristics are clear and modeled by our administrators and school committee.
- Our students take great pride in their schools.
- Each of our villages provides a sense of belonging to our students and families.
- Teachers feel valued and their work is viewed as important when the superintendent visits schools weekly.
- The Advanced Studies Leadership Program at Massachusetts Maritime is an amazng experience for our students.
- Consolidation of Town and School Department Human Resources and Finance is a collaborative effort and works very well because of committed staff.
- The entire school and community has welcomed me and offered their support and guidance.
Finally, I feel so fortunate to have been selected to serve as the Barnstable Public Schools superintendent and look forward to serving the students, staff and families in our community.
