Busty Mermaid Sculpture Causes Cape Cod Controversy
A sand sculpture of a rather well-endowed mermaid at a Cape Cod diner have some questioning its appropriateness.
Yarmouth, MA — A sand sculpture of a rather well-endowed mermaid is causing waves of controversy on Cape Cod.
The sculpture, depicting a mermaid atop a lobster, is located at Salty's restaurant in Yarmouth. It was created by Hampton, N.H.-based artist Greg Grady to model Salty's logo.
The sculpture is one of dozens crafted across Yarmouth for town's summer kick-off celebration. It's also appeared to have drawn the most interest.

Yarmouth police posted a photo of the sculpture as part of an ongoing series of photos promoting the sculptures. But they took it down after receiving several negatives comments, including:
"That is ridiculous."
...
"Ick!"
...
"This could be a beautiful sand sculpture if the artist hadn't designed giant, distracting breasts on her."
Others thought the criticism itself was ridiculous.

"I can't believe how many people have a problem with this."
"Do you know what offends me? People who find art offensive. Before you know the 'sensitive' people of the world will find the sculptures of David ... offensive. For god's sake it's a flipping sand sculpture."
Patch was unable to reach Grady Tuesday morning and left a message for him.
“It’s crazy that this has stirred up so much controversy,” Salty's owner Raymond Roy told the Cape Cod Times. “It’s covered, it’s not nudity.”
