Cape Gun Works

The Cape Cod Military Museum, CCMM, will give a presentation, “The Use of Animals WW I’ at the Cape Gun Works, 96 Airport Road in Hyannis on Tuesday, April 28th at 4:00 PM. 
This photo lecture tells the bizarre and fascinating story of the uses of animals during the Great War. We will cover the expected and surprising jobs given to our furry and feathered friends.
Museum mascot Sgt. Stubby will perform feats of obedience and tricks at the conclusion of the lecture.
Suggested donation is $10 and proceeds go to the Cape Cod Military Museum, a 501(c)(3) charity.

The Capture of Fort Ticonderoga, God of Our Fathers Lecture

On May 3rd at 2pm we are delighted to welcome scholar and scientist Mimi Hiebert, who will be lecturing on the subject of glass deterioration.
Glass is often thought of as a stable material &nbsp;- that unless it is broken, it will last forever. &nbsp;This, however, is far from the case. &nbsp;From crizzling and weeping to salt and soap formation, glass objects can deteriorate in a wide array of dramatic and interesting ways. This talk will focus on the many ways glass can deteriorate, the factors that influence how, why, and when it happens, and what can be done to slow or stop it.&nbsp;
Mimi holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Maryland as well as a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Richmond, specializing in glass deterioration.&nbsp; She has just completed work for the Glass Deterioration Working Group at the Smithsonian Institution which conducted the largest study ever undertaken to date on the deterioration of glass collections in museums.&nbsp;<a href="https://eventvesta.com/events/142061/t/tickets" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">View Tickets</a> &amp; More info

These changes are already affecting marine life, commercial fishing, and how we manage and protect our coastal waters.
Join Glen Gawarkiewicz, Senior Scientist in Physical Oceanography at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution , for a clear, compelling look at what’s happening beneath the surface. Blending cutting-edge science with real-world impacts, Glen will explore how ocean fronts move, why the sea around Cape Cod is changing so quickly, and what those changes mean for fishermen, ecosystems, and the future of the region.

This concert explores how composers transform moments of darkness into radiance. From quiet introspection to exuberant celebration, the music reflects the resilience of the human spirit.
The program begins with Copland’s Saturday Night Waltz, continues with the first movements of Mahler’s Symphony #1, and Dvorak’s Symphony #8, and concludes with Holst’s Mars, Bringer of War.
