Having not lost a game in 2012, the hometown Bluefins took the ice at the with a three game win streak and a chip on their shoulder.
At the 6:24 mark of the first period they drew first blood when Brad Surdam deflected a Billy Tibbets pass past Brooklyn goalie, Richard Scarsella to give the Bluefins a 1-0 lead. The visiting Aviators outshot the Fins 15-11 but goalie Chris Testa kept them off the board and took his team into the locker room with the advantage after the first intermission.
The teams battled through the second period with neither team scoring. It wasn’t until early in period 3 that Derek Scanlon fired a hard slap shot from the blue line that found it’s way through many bodies and into the back of the net. Assists went to Brad Surdam and Billy Tibbetts.
