Cape Cod Hospitals In Need Of Blood Donations
Cape Cod Healthcare is running several blood drives throughout January to replenish the supply.
HYANNIS, MA — Are you looking for a way to start off 2021 with something positive? Cape Cod Healthcare could use residents' help replenishing the blood supply to help their hospitals get through the start of the new year.
Since 1970, January has been recognized as National Blood Donor month to help emphasize the importance of blood and platelet donations, especially during the winter months when inclement weather or seasonal illness may impact donations.
And during the coronavirus pandemic, getting blood donations has become even more critical, according to hospital officials. Cape Cod and Falmouth hospitals need at least one week's worth of blood on hand at all times, since each unit collected or purchased only lasts 42 days.
