Cape Cod Hospitals In Urgent Need of Blood

Hospitals across the Cape Cod Healthcare network are in need of blood, specifically O negative.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The Cape Cod Healthcare blood program is experiencing an urgent need for O negative blood following a recent emergency at the hospital.

"O negative is the universal blood type, meaning that anyone can receive your blood, and it can be used in transfusions for any other blood type," said Jonathan DeCoste, the senior blood donor recruiter at Cape Cod Healthcare. "It is routinely in short supply and in high demand by hospitals. O negative blood also is the universal blood type needed for emergency transfusions."

If you or someone you know has O negative blood, please consider making an appointment at one of the upcoming blood drives.
