Cape Cod Man Found Dead At Sandy Pond Recreation Area
A West Yarmouth man was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday after a search and rescue team discovered his body in the water, police said.
YARMOUTH, MA — Yarmouth police are investigating the death of a Cape Cod man who was found dead in the water at Sandy Pond Recreation Area on Monday evening.
Police received a call around 4 p.m. on Monday from family members of Eduardo C. Gomes, of West Yarmouth. Gomes was last seen at approximately 1 a.m. and had not returned home, police said.
The vehicle Gomes was driving was located at the Sandy Pond Recreation Area, which is located off Buck Island Road in West Yarmouth. Officers canvassed the area and located a flip-flop along a path, police said.

Yarmouth police activated the Cape Cod Regional Search and Rescue Team after the flip-flop was found, who discovered Gomes in the water a few feet from shore. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation by the Yarmouth Police and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit is ongoing.
