A "bacterial exceedance" is to blame for the temporary no swimming mandate, Cape Cod National Seashore officials said.

WELLFLEET, MA — A popular Cape Cod beach is closed for swimming due to bacteria in the water, officials said.
Cape Cod National Seashore officials announced on Wednesday that Marconi Beach is closed to swimming due to a "bacterial exceedance."
More samples will be collected in the coming days, with the seashore set to provide updates as results come in, officials said.

Snail Road Beach Access
Piping plover babies have hatched at the Snail Road Access Point within the national seashore, meaning some aspects of the point can return to normal.

Officials said the pedestrian beach access point at the end of Snail Road has reopened, although the pet closure is still in effect.
"The piping plovers and their newly hatched chicks are still in the area, so hikers should exercise caution and be on the lookout for the young birds," officials said. "The chicks blend into their surroundings and can be accidentally stepped on and killed."
