Cape Cod Thanksgiving Shooting Suspect Arraigned, Held Without Bail

A Hyannis man will wait for his next hearing in jail after he was arraigned on numerous assault and weapons charges.

BARNSTABLE, MA — The man charged with firing a weapon in a Thanksgiving shooting on Cape Cod was arraigned on Thursday.

Mark Griswold, 53, of Hyannis, was arraigned in Barnstable Superior Court on charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, witness intimidation and several other firearms and assault charges.

On Nov. 23 at about 5:37 p.m., Barnstable police received a 911 call reporting gun shots and a person being hit, officials said. When officers arrived they found a victim with gunshot wounds, who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

After further investigation — which included video canvassing, ballistics and scientific testing — Barnstable police were able to identify Griswold as the shooter.

Griswold had recently been released from a five year stint in state prison for firearm-related offenses.

He is scheduled for a dangerousness hearing in Barnstable Superior Court on March 15 and, in the meantime, is currently being held without bail at the Barnstable House of Correction.

Griswold is also scheduled to appear in the Barnstable Superior Court on April 9 for a probation surrender hearing related to the firearm possession charges.
