Cape And Islands DA Galibois Cited With Traffic Violations

Reports of a minor traffic accident involving DA Robert Galibois have been confirmed by police reports. He has since released a statement.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois was issued three traffic citations this week, confirming reports that he was involved in a small accident in Barnstable.

Galibois is not facing any criminal charges, according to a Barnstable police report published first by Hyannis News.

According to the report, Galibois and a man identified as Rahim Edwards were involved in a small crash. Galibos, according to Edwards, backed into his car before speeding away. Edwards was able to flag Galibois down after following him and honking multiple times.

When Galibois exited his vehicle, according to the report, he was unaware that he had hit the vehicle and, after Galibois asked Edwards if he'd like to contact police, they exchanged information for insurance purposes.

Edwards' mother, who owns the vehicle, later told police that Galibois wasn't responsive to her later calls and denied being involved in an accident when approached by her insurance company, which is when she contacted police for assistance.

According to Galibois, the incident started when he was making a three-point turn on Barnstable Road. He believed he was safe to do so, but was later flagged down by Edwards. When Galibois said he was unaware of the crash, he claims Edwards said "maybe I hit the curb," according to the police report.

Galibois was issued traffic citations for making an improper turn, marked lanes violation and failure to report a motor vehicle accident on March 13. On Tuesday, Galibois issued a statement in which he "accepts responsibility" for the citations.
