Cape Woman Throws Coffee, Injures Toddler In Road Rage Fit: PD

In a road rage incident, police said Emma Silva threw a cup of iced coffee in another car and struck a woman's sleeping 2-year-old son.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Marston Mills woman was arrested after police said she threw a cup of iced coffee during a road rage incident that went through a woman's car window and struck her sleeping 2-year-old son, leaving his face bloodied.

Emma Silva, 20, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child under 14 and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Just before 1 p.m., Wednesday, police were called to Route 28 in Centerville. A woman told police a woman, later identified as Silva, was riding her bumper and laying on her horn while screaming at her.

Police said Silva then threw a cup of iced coffee into her car and struck her 2-year-old son in the face. The boy was sleeping in a child seat in the back of the car when he was hit.

Silva then drove off on West Main Street in Hyannis, police said. Officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Following the incident, the mother drove to the Barnstable Police Department, where fire officials treated her son's cut and bloody nose.

Police said they found coffee splattered all over the back seat of the mother's car and found Silva's ice coffee cup on the floor.

Later on, police said they made contact with Silva, and she voluntarily came to the police station. Police said it was there the mother identified Silva as the woman who struck her son.

Silva was arraigned in Barnstable District Court Thursday morning. She was released on $540 bail and is due back in court on Nov. 4.
