Cape's First Recreational Pot Shop Gets Green Light From State
The Cannabis Control Commission approved Cape Cod's first recreational marijuana dispensary.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Cape Cod's first recreational marijuana shop was given the green light to open by the state's Cannabis Control Commission. Curaleaf, the Wakefield based marijuana company with a dispensary in Oxford and another it plans to open in Ware, can open a store in downtown Provincetown as long as its receives a license from town officials. The topic is expected to be discussed at a public hearing at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 28.
Patrik Jonsson, the president of Curaleaf Massachusetts, said the dispensary at 170 Commercial St. should create more than 30 jobs. CEO Joseph Lusardi told Boston.com he's proud the company, which has dispensaries in other states where marijuana is legal, can expand further into Massachusetts.
"As one of the largest cannabis companies in the United States, we are proud to be based right here in Massachusetts and to be expanding our presence across the Commonwealth," Lusardi told Boston.com

Curaleaf will not have an onsite parking lot but will have bike racks and take advantage of Provincetown's public parking lots, located within walking distance to the store. During the summer, the store will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. For the offseason, the company plans to be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and close at 5 p.m. on Sundays.
As of last month, the Cannabis Control Commission has received just three recreational applications in Barnstable County. Most towns on Cape Cod have banned dispensaries from opening with Provincetown, Brewster, Eastham, Mashpee, Truro and Wellfleet being the only ones to allow them.
