Class Dismissed For The Week, Barnstable Says
The public school system is still recovering from the effects of a devastating blizzard that struck Massachusetts on Sunday and Monday.
BARNSTABLE, MA — The town has canceled public school classes for the remainder of the week, according to a notice on Wednesday afternoon.
Like many Cape communities, Barnstable immediately shuttered schools in the wake of Monday’s devastating blizzard. And while the town is shoveling out from the 2 feet of snow that fell here, clean-up work remains.
More than half of Barnstable electricity customers were still without power as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to reports from utility Eversource.

Barnstable School Superintendent Sarah Ahern posted a notice that dismissed classes on Thursday and Friday.
“Most of our buildings continue to not have power and we are unsure of the timing of restoration. Additionally, once power is restored, our team will need time to run a series of tests to make sure that our systems are functioning properly.”
