COVID-19 Vaccine Policy Suspended For Barnstable County Employees

County employees will no longer be required to receive the vaccination after a County Commissioners vote on Wednesday.

BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA — County Commissioners voted on Wednesday to suspend the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for government workers.

Citing the fact that COVID is becoming less of a problem in the state than at the beginning of the pandemic, Barnstable County Deputy Director Vaira Harik said there is no longer a reason for the requirement.

"We are now in an endemic phase," Harik said.

Harik did however leave the door open for the policy to return if COVID-19 cases begin to ramp up.

This will impact the roughly 250 people employed by the county.
