Drunk Mom's Car Bursts Into Flames with Child Inside on Cape Cod: Police

Christine Cogill was charged with drunk driving (second offense) and child endangerment.

A local mother was driving drunk with her daughter in the vehicle when she crashed into a utility pole in Yarmouth—causing the vehicle to burst into flames, police said.

Christine Cogill, 35, of Marshfield, was charged with drunk driving (second offense) and child endangerment, among other offenses.

Police said she crashed her gray Toyota Camry on Route 28 near Higgins Crowell Road Friday at about 7:30 p.m. A nurse who was driving by approached the wreck and took the child to safety, police said. Cogill was trapped in the vehicle; officers pulled her to safety as the vehicle started smoking then bursts into flames, police said. Cogill suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.
