Bartender Kim Helie wants to give you a tropical kiss.

But first, she answered 5 questions for us:

What do you wish people knew about bartending?

A lot of people think it’s just pouring drinks—but it’s a lot more than that.  There’s a lot of cleaning and setting up and breaking down, too.

Bartenders talk to a lot of people every day—tell us about the most bizarre person or experience from work.

There’s not really one thing—but back in the day, at another bar where I worked, we used to have so much fun with promo nights.  You know, the Bud girls would come and give out shot glasses and T-shirts.  The rules were more relaxed then, and everyone was much wilder!

What one quality separates a regular bartender from an unforgettable one?

Bartending school doesn’t teach personality.  This job is so much more than money.  You have to want to make people happy and be a people person.  When I see kids that have just come from bartending school, I hope they have the personality to back it up.

People come to you to let off some steam and relax—what is your favorite spot in town to do the same?

Sundancer’s!

Tropical storm?  How about Kim’s favorite drink, the Tropical Kiss?

In a highball glass with ice, pour:

0.5 oz. banana liqueur

0.5 oz. peach liqueur

0.5 oz. amaretto

1 oz. Cruzan spiced rum

Equal parts pineapple, peach and orange juices

Shake and top with a splash of Grenadine.  Now pucker up!
