BARNSTABLE, MA — The town of Barnstable received 6,300 free at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits from the state, which it is distributing through various channels to residents who have limited means to purchase at-home tests.

Kits have been given to public schools in Barnstable, the council on aging, the Barnstable Housing Authority and faith-based organizations, according to the town's Facebook site.

"Barnstable was selected as 1 of 102 communities in the Commonwealth with the highest estimated percentage of families living below the poverty level," town health officials said in a statement. "These tests are intended for that low-income population and we facilitated distribution to that population in our community. The Town distributed them to the identified agencies as soon as they were received."
