Local band Sonic Pidgin said on social media the group was in talks to play shows at the establishment this summer, but have since backed out of negotiations because of the video.
A statement from the band is included below:
"We are severely disheartened by the recent news regarding Trader Ed's in Hyannis and its owner. We recently had negotiations with the establishment regarding possible upcoming gigs this summer. However, local friends & news outlets made us aware of a video of a recent incident in which the owner displayed racist and hateful behavior. As a direct result, we have immediately pulled out of any and all negotiations with that establishment. We are a group who believes in kindness, equality, and respect, and we want to continue to promote positivity and inclusion at our shows because that is who we are. Plus, we love our frontman, and he would never treat any of you with anything other than good vibes and a kind heart. We look forward to visiting Cape Cod in a different capacity and playing music for you in a place where all are welcomed and treated with love & respect."
Barnstable Police told WCVB that an investigation has been opened. Patch has reached out to the department for additional information.
