Hyannis Doctor Ran Oxycodone Pill Mill, Scammed MassHealth, AG Says

A Hyannis doctor was recently charged with illegally prescribing powerful drugs and scamming the state’s Medicaid system.
Dr. Mohammad Nassery, 63, practiced at Ariana Pediatric Neurology. He was charged with 11 counts of writing illegal prescriptions, nine counts of making false Medicaid claims, and larceny over $250. As a result of the charges, he agreed to no longer practice medicine, according to state Attorney General Maura Healey.
Healey said Nassery illegally prescribed Oxycodone and other drugs to patients with well-documented susbstance abuse problems.

“Physicians have a responsibility to care for their patients and keep them safe and healthy,” Healey said in a statement. “Our investigation revealed that Dr. Nassery violated that trust by writing prescriptions he knew were medically unnecessary and providing powerful painkillers to people with documented substance abuse problems,
“Through a partnership with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, we are proactively working to ensure that Dr. Nassery’s patients are notified about this case and referred for proper care and treatment by other medical professionals. Our office is committed to ending practices that fuel the disease of addiction and ruin lives.”
