Hyannis Man Faces Third Child Pornography Charge

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Hyannis man was arrested after police said he was caught with pictures of child pornography. Robert Laplante, 62, who was already listed as a level three sex offender, was charged with his possession of child pornography (third offense) and violation of parole.

On Thursday, police were called to an Laplante's home at Gosnold Street to help a Massachusetts State Parole officer with conducting a home visit. Police said the parole officer discovered pictures depicting child pornography during the visit.

In 2005 Laplante pleaded guilty to secretly videotaping and photographing naked children between 1996 and 2004. Laplante was sentenced to six to nine years in jail with probation for 10 years.

Laplante was arraigned in Barnstable District Court Friday and was held on $20,000 bail. If convicted Laplante faces a mandatory prison sentence of 10 years.
