iHeartMedia Cuts Several Well-Known Cape Cod Radio Broadcasters
Dan Mahoney and Stephanie Viva, two of the most popular radio hosts on Cape Cod, are among the broadcasters leaving the airwaves.
BARNSTABLE, MA — iHeartMedia has let go several popular on-air personalities on Cape Cod as part of nationwide layoffs that began Wednesday and resulted in hundreds of employees losing their jobs. Dan Mahoney and Stephanie Viva, the co-hosts of WCOD's "Dan and Stephanie" morning show and Marylee Kelly from WCIB's classic rock "Cool 102," were among those affected.
The cuts come as iHeartMedia tries to cut costs by layering more national programming on its local stations. Boston radio broadcasters were also hit by layoffs including WBZ news anchor Deb Lawler and political commentator Jon Keller
Viva was with iHeartMedia for two decades before receiving the news Wednesday. Her and Mahoney had co-hosted "Dan and Stephanie since 2003. It was the longest running morning show on the Cape.

"I don’t know what the hell we’re going to do," Viva told Cape Cod Times. "It’s just crazy right now. I feel so awful right now because Dan is expecting a baby in March, and I'm currently going through cancer treatment."
Kelly became the afternoon hosts for "Cool 102" about two-and-a-half years ago. She told the Cape Cod Times she wasn't expecting to be laid off, but she wasn't surprised either.

The industry news site NERW says with the cuts, listeners of the stations can expect iHeartMedia to build "a smaller number of super-regional hubs that will originate voicetracks, music scheduling, traffic, billing and a lot of the other functions that once had to be handled in each local market."
