The Autumn Escape Bike Trek is BACK!

The American Lung Association in Massachusetts announced that its Annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek will return to an in-person event through Cape Cod Massachusetts on September 25 – 26, 2021, with 1- and 2-day options for riders. Participants will ride 25, 50 or 100 miles on a new route that extends from Sandwich to Dennis, Massachusetts and back, aiming to raise $175,0000 for the organization’s mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung diseases, including lung cancer and COVID-19.

Individual and team registration now OPEN for Annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek at AutumnEscape.org

“The Autumn Escape Bike Trek is both a unique and rewarding experience and we are thrilled to bring it back as an in-person event this year,” said Karen Whitefield, executive director for the American Lung Association in Massachusetts. “While COVID-19 threw a wrench into our plans last year, our cyclists and our greater lung health community is now more motivated than ever to help create a world free of lung disease. We are looking forward to welcoming back our riders to Cape Cod and continuing our work together to raise funds and awareness for lung diseases like lung cancer and COVID-19.”

In addition to the in-person event, participants also have the option to “Cycle Your Way,” participating and training virtually through the Autumn Escape Bike Trek Strava Club. Strava is a free application for smartphones that allows cyclists to track activity and take part in some friendly competition with other trekkers to stay on top of the leaderboard. Cyclists are also encouraged to use the new Cycle for Air App (available for Apple and Android devices) to help manage their personal fundraising efforts.

Money raised by the Autumn Escape Bike Trek will support the Lung Association’s three-pronged approach of advocacy, education, and research to create a world free of lung disease. This includes efforts to address the youth vaping crisis, support the Clean Air Act, fund new treatment and research for lung cancer, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
