Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries In Cape Cod Fire
A Cape Cod man was flown to a Boston area hospital for treatment after a reported fire, and possible explosion, at a Hyannis auto body shop.
HYANNIS, MA — One man was flown to a Boston area hospital with life-threatening injuries after a fire and possible explosion at a Cape Cod autobody shop, fire and police officials confirmed.
At 2:23 p.m. on Friday, Barnstable police dispatchers received a report of the fire or explosion at 105 Ferndoc St. and dispatched fire and police officials to the scene. Those officials found smoke and fire visible upon arrival and confirmed that one person was still inside the building.
Officials made entry into the building to search the occupant, eventually finding and removing him from the fire.

The man "required extensive decontamination prior to being flow to a Boston area hospital by Boston Medflight," officials said.
After the man was removed other fire companies arrived and were able to extinguish the fire. Officials said it was associated with "the failure of a waste oil storage tank which released a substantial amount of oil and other fluids."

The fire and explosion remain under investigation and other officials are engaged with the process "to limit the effects of the released oil."
