Man Tore Down Barnstable First Responder Bridge Flags: Police
The man allegedly stole multiple flags from the memorial overpass on Rt. 6.

BARNSTABLE, MA – A Mashpee man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly tore down multiple flags on the First Responder Memorial Bridge on Rt. 6 in Barnstable. A witness told officers the man cut and tore police and fire flags from the overpass fence and hid them under his shirt. He then left the area in a tan Toyota sedan, which police found using a license number written down by the caller, according to a statement.
Officers stopped the car on Thornberry Circle around 4:45 p.m. and arrested the driver, 27-year-old Alexander McGee. He matched the description of the driver given by the witness, and officers could see police and fire flags on the floor of the car, police said.
McGee was charged with injury to a memorial, fence, flags or trees and larceny of property $250 or less. The three flags were recovered.
