Marstons Mills Student Selected to Represent SkillsUSA Massachusetts at National Conference
The student was recognized at the State House on Monday.

Student Joshua Smith from Marstons Mills was recognized by SkillsUSA Massachusetts for his excellence in career and technical education, Senate President Therese Murray announced on Monday.
More than 2,300 competed and Smith was one of 326 students, teachers and school administrators selected to participate in the 47th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference, which showcases the nation’s future high performance workers.
Smith will be representing Massachusetts in the national competition in the Tech Prep Showcase competition, which challenges students on their ability to present, through the design and construction of a display, the application of skills and education brought about through technical career training. Students perform a professional team presentation applying the appropriate technology associated with the program. A team consisting of three students enrolled in the same recognized technical school will present the project.

“Congratulations to all the students in Massachusetts who received this honor,” Murray said in a press release. “I am proud they will represent our great Commonwealth at the upcoming national conference. This recognition is a testament to their hard work and dedication. It’s important for students to learn professional skills while they are still in the classroom. Providing students with a head start through career education will benefit both our local work force and our communities.”
The National Leadership and Skills Conference will take place in Kansas City, Missouri, from June 20 to 24.

“SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference provides hope for America’s work force by showcasing the skills and talents of the next generation of workers,” said Karen Ward, SkillsUSA Massachusetts Executive Director. “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is traditionally well represented due in large part of the quality of the career and technical training provided to our students. This is a very proud occasion for every community that will send participants. Their participation is an investment in America’s future.”
The students participated in a recognition luncheon hosted by SkillsUSA on Monday at the State House.
Joshua attends Cape Cod RTHS in Harwich.
