Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket Ferry Tickets Rise In Price

In the esteemed words of Fat Joe: Yesterday's price is not today's price. Here's what a ticket from Hyannis or Woods Hole will cost in 2023.

The move, according to projections, should generate $4.4 million in additional revenue on the Martha's Vineyard route, and $3.4 million on the Nantucket route, to offset rising costs.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — A trip out to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket from Woods Hole or Hyannis won't be as cheap as it once was, the Steamship Authority decided recently.

The agency approved a rate increase that will see one-way ticket prices from both locations rise by 50 cents, bringing the cost of a ticket to $10. A ride to Nantucket will cost $1 extra, raising the cost of a ticket to $20.50.

The Cape Cod Times first reported on the rate increase, which was approved at the board's Oct. 18 meeting.

Revenue is the leading cause for the decision, according to the report. The authority said its 2022 net income was around $9 million. Without a rate hike in 2023, the authority expected that number to drop to around just $1 million, according to the report.
