YARMOUTH, MA — Proposed legislation named after a Yarmouth K9 who was shot in the line of duty will go before the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security at the State House this week. Nero's Bill would allow police K9s injured in the line of duty to be treated and transported by EMS, provided there is not a competing need for human transport, according to the Yarmouth Police Department.

The bill is named after Yarmouth K9 Nero, Officer Sean Gannon's dog, who was shot in the face and neck when Gannon was fatally shot last year. Nero ultimately made a full recovery.

Nero's Bill will go before the committee Thursday, July 18 at 9 a.m.
