NStar/NU Merger Completed
With 3.5 million customers under its wing, NStar and Northeast Utilities says it will offer customers more diverse opportunities.

Today NStar and Northeast Utilities announced today its merger is complete, creating one of the largest utility companies in the country serving 3.5 million customers across three states.
The electric and natural gas giant when combined says it will "be more diverse and better positioned to support economic growth and renewable energy opportunities in New England," according to the release.
The Cape Cod Times reported the completed merger "requires the two companies to provide state officials with a list of assets, additional information on operating expenses, capital investments, rates of return and revenues for the next four years."

Upon the closing of the merger, Thomas J. May became president and CEO of Northeast Utilities, and Charles W. Shivery became non-executive chairman of NU’s board of trustees. The combined company will have dual headquarters in Boston, MA, and Hartford, CT, the release stated.
