NY Man Charged After $100K Scam Against Cape Cod Local

The charge is a benchmark for an investigation that began in November 2023 after a Cape Cod resident fell victim to a business email scam.

BARNSTABLE, MA — An Albany, New York, man faces a charge after officials said he scammed a Cape Cod resident out of $100,000.

Khaseem Allah, 25, was arrested by the Barnstable Police Department Investigative Services Division and the U.S. Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force on July 15. He faces a charge of larceny over $1,200.

Barnstable Police launched an extensive investigation in November 2023 after becoming aware of a "business email compromise" that targeted a company with which an Osterville resident was conducting business, officials said.

The victim was instructed by the email to redirect a payment of $100,000 to an unauthorized account. The company contacted the victim, however, notifying him of fraud.

A Barnstable Police Detective assigned to the USSS as a Task Force Officer traced the transaction to a New York bank, when they determined that Allah was involved, officials said.

Allah was indicted by the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office after officials said they confirmed his involvement, prompting a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody in Troy, New York.

Allah waived extradition and was taken to the Barnstable Police Department. He was arraigned on Aug. 1 and is held on $50,000 bail. Allah was be monitored by GPS if bail is posted.
