Over $25K Raised For Victim Of Fatal Cape Cod Shark Attack

Hundreds have contributed to the family of a 26-year-old Revere man who died after being bitten by a shark off the coast of Wellfleet.

WELLFLEET, MA – More than 400 people have contributed to a GoFundMe campaign for the family of Arthur Medici, a 26-year-old Revere man who died after he was bitten by a shark off Cape Cod over the weekend. Medici was boogie boarding with a friend off Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet when he was attacked.

Medici was studying engineering and engaged to a medical student, according to the fundraiser. He was described as a "very happy young man" who "loved hiking, biking, surfing and various other sports."

The GoFundMe page had raised over $26,000 as of 9:20 a.m. Monday.

Medici's death was the state's first as the result of a shark attack since 1936, when a 16-year-old was killed in the waters off Mattapoisett. Last month, a 61-year-old New York man survived an attack off Truro, the first in Massachusetts since 2012.

William Lytton, who is still recovering in a Boston hospital, told the Cape Cod Times he feels "horribly" for Arthur Medici's family.

"I feel like I just barely escaped death myself," Lytton said in an interview with the Times.
