Over $46K Raised For Family Of Boy Killed In Cape Cod Fire

The funds will be used for a memorial service and toward helping the family recover from the fire that destroyed many of their belongings.

ORLEANS, MA — A fire on Cape Cod over the weekend took nearly everything from a local family. Now, the community is making sure they can get some of it back.

The family of Kyi Odeen Bourne, the 6-year-old boy who died in an Orleans house fire over the weekend, have received over $46,000 as of Tuesday morning for funeral expenses and toward rebuilding what they lost in the fire.

Nothing can replace the loss of a child, but the community has rallied around the family to ensure that money is raised and they are supported.

The fundraiser was created by Odeen Bourne's mother, Shantal Thomas, who shared that the funds will go to help her husband Rahim and an 8-year-old daughter, Kylie.

She shared a note about her son on the fundraiser page:

"Kyi was 6 years old and autistic. He attended the Harwich elementary School in Massachusetts. His favorite color is red and his favorite cartoon was SpongeBob square pants and boss baby. I would appreciate all help and donations because it would be of great benefit to me Shantal, my 8 year old daughter Kylie, my husband Rahim and towards helping with the funeral of my son Kyi. Thanks in advance to y’all..prayers for my family to get through these difficult times."

Odeen Bourne was a student at Harwich Elementary School. The Superintendent of the Monomy Regional School District, Scott Carpenter, this week shared the GoFundMe fundraiser, and also noted other ways the community could support the family.

"Please join me in holding the Bourne/Thomas family in our hearts following their unimaginable loss. Kyi will be deeply missed by all," said Carpenter, who noted that school officials are providing grief counseling to students and faculty as well.

The district is also collecting donations for the family. Items being accepted are included below:

  • Boy's clothing in 4T or 5T
  • Women's clothing in sizes L and XL
  • Men's clothing in sizes S, M, and XL
  • Girl's clothing in size 6 or XS
  • Gift cards for grocery stores, gas, and department stores

Donations are being accepted at the Harwich Elementary School lobby, 263 South St.
