Viewfinder: Peace Day Celebrated at BIS

Eight seventh-graders who were good representatives of "Peace Day" qualities competed for prizes in a Peace Jeopardy at BIS.

For its third year, Peace Day had Barnstable Intermediate School seventh grade students pumped.

"They really get into it," Vice Principal James Anderson said. 

Music and cheering started the beginning of Peace Jeopardy where seventh graders faced off on answering questions about being respectful, kind and inclusive - all part of BIS's anti-bullying education.

Students dressed as hippies in honor of Peace Day and held signs promoting peace.

Peace Day is a culmination of two months of "Connect Respect" where students spend dedicated time each week learning about respect, kindness and inclusion.

The program at BIS is a mixture of Bridgewater State's anti-bullying program and Second Step, Anderson said.

Anti-bullying efforts are not a one-off type educational events, but instead intertwined with curriculum and social interactions - student created signs about being respectful hang in the hallways.
