Red Raiders Dispatch Silver Lake with Nastasi Complete Game

Can the boys baseball team get another win under their belts on today?

With old rival Silver Lake in town, the Barnstable nine came to play.

With a complete-game, nine-inning shutout turned in by junior righty Willie Nastasi (4-1) and 12 hits from its offense, the Red and White cruised through this Division 1 South Sectional first round match-up. It will now face either North Attleboro or Attleboro High School on today at 4 pm in the South Sectional Quarterfinals.

Alex Pernick (2-4, RBI), Mark Brodd (2-5, RBI) and Dylan Morris (2-4, 2 RBI) collected multiple hits for the hosts, while each and every other Red Raider in the lineup collected at least one hit.

Nastasi went nine innings, striking out three and scattering five hits en route to his first-career postseason win on the hill. Due to Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association regulations, all postseason baseball games are nine innings in duration.

Regardless, Nastasi was a model of efficiency, retiring the side in the first, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth innings.

Barnstable got on the board first, and it was all the Red & White would need as Morris collected an infield single to start things off in the bottom of the second inning, Dan Walsh reached on an error and Pernick singled to drive in Morris. DJ Crook then singled to drive in Walsh (1-4), Denny Beynor (1-4, RBI) followed suit with an RBI-single and Crook scored on a fielder's choice and error. Brodd wrapped things up nicely with an RBI baseknock to make it 4-0 and that's all Barnstable would need.

The Red Raiders picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with singles from Ty Adams (1-4) and Morris. They made it 8-0 in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI-single by Will Toffey (1-4) to drive in Brodd and Morris.
