Red Raiders Down D-Y, Go 4-0
Riding the continued solid pitching of senior righty Willie Nastasi, as well as the apt closing duty of Dan Holzman, the Barnstable High School baseball team upped its record to 4-0 yesterday afternoon versus the talented Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins.
Not even a towering home run could solve the Red Raider pitching riddle.
Barnstable High School senior righty Willie Nastasi (2-0) tossed six innings and allowed just two earned runs for his second win of the still young season this afternoon at Merril "Red" Wilson Field, leading the Red & White to a 5-3, nailbiting win. Barnstable now stands at 4-0 while D-Y falls to 1-1 after defeating Bridgewater-Raynham in its season-opener last week. BHS welcomes Nauset Regional tomorrow at Hyannis.
Right-handed junior closer Dan Holzman notched his second save in as many appearances, striking out two batters in the bottom of the 7th inning, and escaped a bases-loaded jam as three D-Y Dolphins reached on infield errors.

Nastasi struck out seven, walked two and hit one batter, while allowing just three hits in six innings of work. The Dennis-Yarmouth hits included a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning by clean-up man Cody Sullivan.
After a scoreless first, Barnstable got on the board in the top of the second inning when Danny Walsh (1-1, 2 BBs, 2 runs scored) led off with a single, followed by a Mark Brodd (1-1, 2 BBS, 2 runs) single. Both runners were moved into scoring position by Everett Walsh (1-2, 2 RBI) and then Dan Walsh came home on a Doug Crook (1-2, RBI) baseknock to left. Brodd scored on the same play when the leftfielder bobbled the ball. Barnstable led 2-0.

The Red Raiders tacked on two more to make it 4-0 in the top of the fourth when Dan Walsh led off with a walk, followed by a Brodd walk, then Dan Walsh came home on an Everett Walsh RBI-single.
Dennis-Yarmouth then plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when Spencer McCaffrey reached on an error, followed by a Matt Montalto single. Both runners advanced on an infield error, followed by a two-RBI basehit from Cody Sullivan (2-4, HR, 3 RBI) to make it 4-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, Barnstable added one more to make it 5-2, when Dylan Morris (1-3) drove one up the middle then scored on a fielder's choice from Everett Walsh.
Cody Sullivan made it 5-3 when he belted a one-out, solo home run into the right-centerfield tree tops, but Nastasi settled to retire the side and Holzman picked up the save in the bottom of the seventh in relief of Nastasi.
