Cape Cod Sharks Closer Than You Think, Photo Shows
An overhead photo after Cape Cod beachgoers were ordered out of the water offers a chilling reminder of how close the predators can get.
WELLFLEET, MA — The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy offered a chilling look Thursday morning at just how close some of these sharks on Cape Cod get to beachgoers. The nonprofit shared a photo of shortly after people were ordered out of the Newcomb Hollow Beach water following a shark sighting Wednesday. The shark, it turns out, wasn't far off.
Newcomb Hollow is the same beach 26-year-old Arthur Medici was killed by a shark last year. It was the first fatal shark attack in Massachusetts since 1936.
Newcomb Hollow yesterday after swimmers were removed from the water due to a white shark spotted. August-October are peak months of white shark activity off Cape Cod. Whether or not a sighting is reported, we advise caution and recommend not venturing beyond waist deep water. pic.twitter.com/TaTOwt8vxf
