Son Charged With Murder After Burning Mother's Body In Cape Cod: DA

A SWAT team was called to a home in Truro after authorities found a woman's body burning on the front lawn on Friday, the DA's Office said.

TRURO, MA — A Cape Cod man is charged with murder after the District Attorney's Office said he burned the body of his mother on the front lawn of their home.

Truro police responded to a well-being check, as well as a report of a fire, at a home in Truro around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

When they arrived, they encountered Adam Howe outside the home while the front lawn was on fire. As emergency personnel realized that a body was burning, Howe ran inside the home and locked the door, authorities said.

The Cape Cod Regional SWAT team responded to the scene and entered the home, arresting Howe. He is charged with murder.

Evidence "suggests" that the murdered person is Susan Howe, Adam Howe's mother, the DA's Office said.

Arrangements are being made to have Howe evaluated for mental health issues following conversations with family members, authorities said.

An investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, Truro Police, and the State Fire Marshalls Office is ongoing.
