State Opening Coronavirus Vaccination Site On Cape Cod

The COVID-19 vaccination site on Cape Cod could open as soon as February.

BARNSTABLE, MA — State officials have committed to opening a COVID-19 vaccination site on Cape Cod, officials with the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment told the Cape Cod Times.

Department Director Sean O'Brien told the newspaper the site could open as soon as February, and more details will be available over the next few days. O'Brien and his staff are expected to meet with state officials to discuss possible locations for the vaccination site later this week. He also told the Cape Cod Times vaccinations will also be available at three pharmacies on Cape Cod and at certain doctors offices, though state officials have yet to share details on where and when those doses will arrive.

Massachusetts remains in phase one of its COVID-19 vaccine roll-out. Those eligible in the first phase include health care employees working directly with coronavirus patients, nursing home residents and staff, first responders, congregate care staff and home-based health care workers.

Health care workers who don’t work with COVID-positive patients are the last group in phase one to be eligible for vaccinations. People over 75 or with two or more comorbidities are also expected to be eligible for the vaccine by February.
