Keys to creating a great classroom

According to Sullivan, “I always have an open mind and I work on giving students a "clean slate" each day.  I try and relate to problems/issues students have and stay on top of my planning/preparing as much as I can.”

On connecting with the students

“Getting to know the students is very important to me,” Sullivan said. “I really enjoy getting to know them outside of the classroom and knowing what they like to do. For example, coaching basketball the last two years has been an extremely rewarding experience. Getting to know the players as real people, not just as students, and sharing my passion of basketball with them has been amazing. I also love going to the talent shows, the drama productions, poetry contests, and other extracurricular activities to see what the kids are like outside of the classroom.”
