What To Know Ahead Of 1st Hyannis Great Streets Project Public Meeting
The project aims to re-envision how Hyannis Main Street and the surrounding streets and intersections are designed, and how they function.
HYANNIS, MA — The "Great Streets Downtown Hyannis: A Walkable Heart for Cape Cod Project", recently commenced with the intention of completion in late spring 2023.
The project aims to re-envision how Hyannis Main Street and the surrounding streets and intersections are designed, and how they function. As part of the early phase of the project, the town is hosting public meetings that are open to the public.
These meetings kick off on Tuesday with a presentation by the urbanist and "Walkable City" author, Jeff Speck. Speck will speak about his experience in transforming cities around the world, and what this means for reimagining the downtown Hyannis street network and streetscape.

About The Project
According to officials, the Great Streets project will look at the existing Downtown Hyannis traffic network and streetscape and create "buildable concepts for Downtown Hyannis that emphasize walkability, enhance the public realm, focus on safety, and support multiple transportation options downtown."
Community members can be a part of designing the Hyannis streetscape by participating in the current stage of planning and future opportunities as they become available, officials said.
The Town of Barnstable retained the services of Jeff Speck (Speck & Associates) and Stantec Consulting Services to lead and execute the project. The project is being coordinated with the Town’s Planning & Development and Public Works Departments.
