Whiz Kid: Peabody is Strong in Academics and Athletics

Name: Nick Peabody, 16

School: Junior, Barnstable High School

Accomplishments: Taking 5 AP classes, playing 3 sports, participating in 2 Honor Societies

Key to Awesomeness: “Nick is pretty impressive,” BHS teacher Matt Sullivan said.  “He is currently taking 5 Advanced Placement classes: Physics, US History, English, Psychology, and Calculus.  His only non AP class is Spanish 3 Honors.”

“In addition to taking some of the hardest courses offered here at BHS, Nick is also involved in the French National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society and school counsel.”

“Last fall as a sophomore, Nick suffered a knee injury towards the end of the football season that ended up keeping him out of the basketball and lacrosse season (he was expected to earn a varsity letter in both sports).  Nick worked extremely hard in PT over the year and busted his butt over the summer to get back on the fields as soon as possible.  He was cleared to play basketball on the summer league team and helped the team win the league championship.”

“In his first varsity game since the injury, Nick caught a touchdown pass in the first half against Durfee and even played some quarterback in the second half.”

“Nick's work ethic on and off the field is something you don't normally see in a person his age.  He enjoys hanging out with his friends and living the normal High School student life, but he does it all while managing one of the toughest class loads possible, participating in nationally recognized academic groups, and playing a vital role on 3 varsity teams this year.”
